Many years before the conversion to Christianity, the basque people created many myths and legends that survive today owing to the oral transmission.
Personages as Mari (Lady who live in the caves of Anboto y Gorbeia), basajaunak (Lords of the wood), Lamiak (Ladies with mermaid aspectand and bird legs) and the sorginak (witches); form a complex group of stories that conditioned the lifes of inhabitants of the Valley.
The arrival of Christianity stopped the public spread of these
believes. However, the private transmision continued.
